As I sit down to explore the world of golden-age cinema, I find myself drawn to the intriguing narratives that unfold like a well-crafted puzzle. Alfred Hitchcock presents strange miracles, and I'm eager to unravel the threads of these timeless classics.

I may attempt to delve into Buster Keaton's The Navigator, courtesy of the Cohen Film Collection's print. While I don't claim to be intimately familiar with Ford's early work, John's The Iron Mule has piqued my interest in doing a compare and contrast analysis. However, my personal favorite choice would undoubtedly be John Ford's The Iron Horse.

As I reflect on my cinematic journey, I'm reminded of a peculiar encounter that shaped my perspective on the genre. During a ski trip to Killington, Vermont with my cousins in 1972, we stumbled upon an R-rated movie playing at the local cinema – a violent mob story that would become my first exposure to such content. The experience left an indelible mark, and I've since developed a fascination with films that push boundaries.

With Twilight Time's recent sale featuring The Valachi Papers, I have the perfect opportunity to revisit this era of cinematic storytelling. And, with some free time on my hands this weekend, I may just attempt to tackle more than one selection from my list of golden-age movies.
